Keygems

I have been cutting and polishing sapphires here in central Queensland for nearly 30 years. I spent 23 years in Rubyvale on the central Queensland gemfields, was also involved with sapphire heat treating and jewellery making. Now living and working in Rockhampton Queensland. Still making a small amount of jewellery for retail sale and gemcutting, mostly blue, yellow, parti-colour Australian sapphires and some zircons.
Most of the stones I use have been heat treated by myself, mostly for the removal of "silk" and to improve the colour by either lightening or darkening the stone. Some have been berillyum treated. No blue sapphires have been beryllium treated as they do not respond very well to this treatment. Please note that Berylium Oxide (BeO) has never been used as a source of beryllium in my treating.
